The Challenge

Vale Royal Fresh Foods set out to create a facility unlike any other in the UK—a state-of-the-art plant dedicated exclusively to producing high-quality bean sprouts. The brief was highly specialised:

“Replicate the perfect growing climate, ensure constant watering, maintain stable temperatures, and achieve an ambitious production target of 120 tonnes per week.”

Our Solution

RCA delivered an innovative design that combined advanced engineering with sustainable practices. Key features included:

  • Climate Control: Precision systems to maintain optimal growing conditions.

  • Water Management: A cutting-edge water treatment plant enabling reuse with only 5% wastage.

  • Energy Efficiency: Solutions designed to minimise environmental impact while supporting large-scale production.

At any given time, the facility held around one million gallons of warm water—an operational challenge met with smart engineering and resource efficiency.

The Result

Upon completion, the Vale Royal Fresh Foods facility became the largest bean sprout growing plant in Europe. It set a new benchmark for sustainable food production and demonstrated how innovation can transform niche agricultural processes into high-volume, eco-friendly operations.
