RATP Dev - Transforming London’s Bus Network with IBUS
The Challenge
London’s bus network faced a persistent problem of inefficiency during peak times. Buses were often overcrowded, leaving passengers stranded at stops. RATP Dev, a leading London bus operator, sought a solution that would enable real-time decision-making and dynamic resource allocation to improve service reliability and customer satisfaction.
Our Solution
RCA was commissioned to design and build a state-of-the-art IBUS operations centre in Harrow, London, along with a new bus park. The IBUS system introduced “smart buses” capable of communicating live data to the operations centre while on route. This innovation allowed operators to:

Optimise Service Efficiency: Adjust resources for specific sections of routes during peak demand.
Integrate Advanced IT Infrastructure: Install complex data systems to support seamless communication and decision-making.

The project was successfully completed, delivering a transformative solution for London’s bus network. The IBUS system eliminated inefficiencies, improved passenger experience, and set a new standard for smart mobility. Today, this blueprint is being rolled out across other routes, shaping the future of public transport in the UK.
